Wayne Dollack’s Grand Finale was yet again a big success. This year’s theme was a continuation of last year’s game WAR. The event took place in Ocala Florida home of Wayne’s World of Paintball. Vendors from all over were there including, Kee Action Sports, BT, Tippmann, PBNation (with their double decker Bus), as well as a few smaller vendors were all in attendance to provide products for every individuals needs.
Saturday players woke to play the event that seems to be the conclusion the paintball season. It was at noon that Head Referee Lumpus’ gun sounded and the game began. Players went on and off of the field chatting about who was where, who had done what, and from the sounds of it the Imperial Guard (orange) was taking care of business and keeping the Chaos Marines (green) on the run. Those who stood to fight on the Chaos Marines side were taken down by the constant droves of Imperial Guard platoons patrolling, as well as sniper’s bullets. I know when I stepped onto the field and headed towards the north base, the Chaos Marines were being flanked by the Imperial Guard. The Chaos Marines were barely making it into the base before they realize that it was under siege. The battle raged on for a while being held up in a building it wasn’t until an Imperial Guard came in and marked the base as being overtaken that the occupants were able to vacate the premises. The final battle before dinner break took place in Adeptus Terra Ministorum where all platoons that were available were recruited from both sides to battle it out to see who would stand victorious.
Sunday at 9 AM, the final day of the event, the game resumed from last night’s late night time play. A few short games were played. Everyone went on and off the field with anticipation of the final battle that everyone will talk about long after the event comes to a close. Again the Imperial Guard was keeping the Chaos Marines steadily in their sights. It was 11:30 everyone went back to their camps and the air station to fill up and get ready for the final battle which took place in Adeptus Terra Ministorum (the Village). At noon it was “game on” for the final battle which would rage for an hour. Much like any final battle during Grand Finale, there was a lot of paint, a lot of people running around and a lot of chaos. The Imperial Guard side was steadily making way to the Chaos Marines’ side. It seemed that the Imperial Guard had taken over much of Adeptus Terra Ministorum and were keeping the Chaos Marines at bay like they had much of the event. At 1pm the event came to an end. Like any Wayne’s World events the players left the field as friends and comrades of the game. Friend’s who had been on the opposite side of the field would meet their buddies asking, ‘Hey did I get you?” Most vowed to return again next year, It didn’t matter who won or lost, or how many points were gained in the end. The event was about having fun with your friends, and enjoying the grass roots of paintball. The good ‘old days’ were once remembered and lived even if it were only for 24 hours. It was yet another great event. The referee staff made sure that it was a safe and fun game. Wayne and Jackie kept good on their word that this event would be yet again another great Grand Finale.

Scenario

After “the battle” it was dinner time. It was getting dark and the camp fires were lit and producing many delicious aromas. The Blue’s Crew camp had Teriyaki steak, Catfish and many other delectable dishes prepared and shared and all of it with anyone who might wonder up. It was a hopeful resurrection of how paintball use to be and will with any luck, return to again.
