Intended to be a true “luxury paintball gun,” the Luxe combines a proven operating system with numerous technological innovations wrapped in a light, stylish package to create an impressive high-end marker. Currently used by such top teams as the incomparable San Diego Dynasty and two-time NXL World Champions the Philadelphia Americans, the Luxe has proven itself throughout 2008 as an effective and very successful paintball gun at the highest levels of competition.

The Luxe’s long list of standard features includes both industry standards and new innovations that combine to help the user put opponents in the dead box as easily as possible. Break-beam anti-chop eyes are standard, as is a smooth, tight double trigger in a .45 grip frame with rubber wrap-around grips. The receiver of the Luxe is cut from high quality aluminum and the gun operates via a spool valve system similar to that used by the Shocker. A vertical, in-line regulator doubles as a fore-grip and a three-piece, Smart Parts-threaded barrel system able to use Smart Parts Freak sleeves is delivered with every Luxe, along with a low-rise, clamping vertical feed neck. The Luxe operates at very low pressure and a high quality on/off bottle adapter allows the owner to use any screw-in compressed air system. The Luxe weighs barely two pounds.

Along with the features players have come to expect from high-end electronic paintball guns, the Luxe delivers numerous innovations.  Instead of a nine-volt battery, the Luxe operates via a small lithium-polymer rechargeable battery like that in a cell phone. This battery is much smaller and lighter than a nine-volt and helps reduce both the size and weight of the Luxe. No macro-line or fittings are necessary to shoot the Luxe, as air is delivered internally from the bottle adapter, through the grip frame and receiver, into the regulator and then back into the gun where it makes paintballs go towards bad guys. When the Luxe is switched on via the small button at the rear of the grip frame, the gun speaks to the user in an attractive voice, telling the user how much battery life is left and what firing mode the gun happens to be in at the time. Reprogramming the Luxe’s electronic features is simple via a simple Xbox-style joystick inside the grip frame, and the gun also speaks to the user to talk him through setting firing modes, rate of fire and dwell.

Just as advanced, if not more than the Luxe’s electronics is the gun’s ease of maintenance. Field stripping the Luxe requires less than five seconds, as pulling up on a lever at the rear of the receiver is all that is necessary to remove the entire bolt assembly. Eye covers are removed just as quickly, as they are held in place with magnets, allowing both eye covers to be pulled away from the receiver in only moments with no tools.

Once a bottle is screwed into the Luxe, a hopper dropped on and paintballs loaded, the Luxe uses all these advancements and innovations to perform admirably. Due to its consistent, low pressure operation, the Luxe is extremely accurate, delivering both snap shots and streams of paint onto target in tight, predictable groups. Eliminating opponents with one or two-ball snap shots is simple with the Luxe, as it points well and handles easily. Thanks to the grip frame’s position at the rear of the receiver while the regulator sits well forward, the Luxe is very stable in the hands. The Luxe is reasonably quiet and relatively air-efficient, with over 1200 rounds able to be fired using a 68 cubic inch, 4,500psi bottle. At no time during testing did the Luxe chop or break paint.

While it is not inexpensive at over fifteen-hundred dollars, the Luxe performs on-par with its price range. Its level of innovation, performance and looks make it an outstanding tournament-level paintball gun able to handle any style of play or requirement thrown at it.
