Bob Long, one of the most influential captains, coaches and gun manufacturers in the game of paintball hit a home run with his Intimidator thanks to its mix of simplicity and high performance. In various forms, the Intimidator has won numerous tournaments in the hands of top players since its earliest models and has gotten better with each new incarnation. Now in its fifth generation, the Intimidator is as the top of its game with the Vice, the lightest, smallest, fastest, most efficient and attractive Intimidator ever.

At approximately two pounds, the all-aluminum Intimidator is both well-made and very light. Milled lusciously and flowing smoothly with rich, bright anodizing, the Vice looks every bit the tournament winner. Operating at low pressure with a standard Tadao board, clamping vertical feed neck, Delrin quick-pull bolt, anti-chop eyes and a quality, fourteen-inch Autococker threaded barrel, the Vice is ready for a hopper, air bottle and a game of paintball at any level out of the box.

With a comfortable .45 grip frame with slim grip panels and a smooth, simply machined vertical inline regulator fore grip, the Vice fits in the hands very well and is comfortable to point and shoot. The smooth, soft, forward swooping double trigger pulls easily and returns quickly allowing for quick snap shots and high rates of fire even in semiautomatic mode, while the Tadao board offers all the ramping and enhanced modes necessary to play in any league. Electronic power is provided by a nine volt battery in the grip frame and switching the gun off and on is accomplished via a rubberized button at the rear of the grip frame. A simple but effective bottle adapter bolts directly to the bottom of the grip frame and while it does not offer an on/off feature, it works just fine.

The Vice isn’t just looks and features, however, as it truly shines inside the net. With a 68 cubic inch, 4,500psi bottle threaded in and a Spyder Fasta eighteen volt hopper clamped on, the Vice was still lightweight and simple to handle, making it ideal for players in the fast-paced world of XBall. Thanks to a very impressive stock barrel and excellent consistency with shot after shot within five feet per second, the Vice delivers excellent accuracy over all ranges. Due in part to the barrel’s porting and likely to the gun’s low pressure operation, the Vice as tested was also much quieter than most open-bolt, stacked-tube tournament guns. Most impressive about the Vice during its time inside the net was its air efficiency, as it delivered over 2,000 shots per fill! Players who wish to keep their setup as light as possible need only switch to a smaller bottle and still enjoy massive shot counts per fill. The Vice did not break or chop paintballs at any time during testing, even during extremely cold weather.

Light, accurate, attractive and extremely efficient, the Vice is by far and away the best Intimidator ever and one of the best values in modern tournament paintball guns. Only an on/off bottle adapter could make the Vice any better out of the box. Some markers costing nearly double the Vice’s price fail to offer its level of looks and performance and the extra few hundred dollars saved by selecting the Vice would certainly buy a lot of paintballs!
