Share In 2008, the OASS broke new ground being a hybrid of fast paced elements of speedball and the challenge of time constrained objectives of scenario paintball. To continue this trend, the 2009 season will be limited to 8 teams competing for the title of OASS season champion and for the grand prize of a Haul Mark fully enclosed trailer covered in championship graphics as well as the winning teams own sponsor logos.
– A first in this kind of series. In addition to the new season champion grand prize, every event will have a prize pool provided by our awesome sponsors. BuyPBL.net has stepped in this season and is providing some of the best prize packages seen in quite some time with prizes from companies like Tippmann and WarSensor to name a few. As with the 2008 season, prizes are decided by the top 3 finishers – they pick the prize package they want.
For 2009, the OASS will have a dedicated referee staff and commissioner. Blackthorn Paintball (2008 overall season winners) will not be playing in the 2009 series but will be providing complete logistical support to the series by way of Head Referee, Referees, time keepers, score keepers and commissioners of the series. When asked what his vision of the series is going to be in the New Year, Mitch Sabourin, the new commissioner stated “With dedicated personnel and a little more organization, the OASS will continue to grow. We’ve developed new ideas and a new rule book for 2009 and I think as long as we continue to listen to the players and implement some of the ideas brought to us by the players, the series will continue to flourish and will remain the premiere 10 man paintball series in Ontario and possibly beyond.”
New this year, and possibly the most exciting news about the future of the OASS is the development of the Urban Combat League (UCL) which is being developed as a feeder league for the OASS. The UCL is a 6 man, semi-only scenario series that requires team work and the heart to push your limits. Played on the same field as the OASS however on the opposite day of the weekend, the UCL will allow teams to try out the format without the obligation of the OASS.
